c# - Alternatives to WPF? -

I am in the process of learning C # and have a firm understanding of Java, and VB6 about two decades ago. I'm jumping straight into Windows desktop applications and wondering what are the options for WPF?

Anything recently, which would be more relevant to spend time learning?

I found a thread, but it is surprising that there has been a change, for example, the Silverlight is all but it seems that it is abandoned.

Background: Computer science has a BS degree, but I have been in the technology industry, and I want to jump from here. Back in a programming career as a beginner, I would like to make a portfolio. Generally, WPF is the best choice for desktops.

There is nothing development on Windows that comes near.

If you want to target the Windows Store app, the main "option" will be, in this situation you will use the Windows Store Development model, it is still XAM-based (as with all new Microsoft UI technologies ), So the WPF knowledge transfer quite well.
